Gerald “Jerry” Kornreich is the Founder and Senior Partner of Kornreich & Associates and has practiced Family Law for over 45 years. He is the first and only lawyer in Miami-Dade County to have been Board Certified by The Florida Bar in Marital and Family Law eight consecutive times. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML), a Fellow of the International Academy of Family Lawyers (IAFL), National Board of Trial Advocates (NBTA) Certified, and has received numerous awards for professionalism, excellence in advocacy, and public service. He is a Past President of The First Family Law American Inn of Court.
Mr. Kornreich has handled thousands of Family Law Cases including taking over 200 cases to trial. He has practiced family law since 1975 and has represented high profile business leaders, physicians, attorneys, CEOs, celebrities, entertainers, professional athletes, supermodels, financial advisors, accountants, industry leaders, entrepreneurs, and their spouses.
Having litigated Family Law cases at every level including in the Trial court, Third District Court of Appeal, and Florida Supreme Court, Mr. Kornreich is the first and only lawyer in Miami-Dade County to be Board Certified in Marital and Family Law eight consecutive times. He took the very first Board Certification exam offered in the State of Florida.
Mr. Kornreich is a member of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML), the nation’s premier association for Board Certified Family Lawyers, and International Academy of Family Lawyers (IAFL), the world’s premier association of top Family Lawyers. He is also National Board of Trial Advocates (NBTA) Certified, a certified arbitrator, and a member of the International Network of Boutique and Independent Law Firms (INBLF).
A frequent lecturer and panelist whose advice in the area of Family Law is extremely sought after, his publication “Proving the Unproveable,” co-authored with Jane Estricher, is one of the most cited scholarly articles on the concept of Imputation of Income in Florida Family Law Cases. He previously was the host of his own television show, “You and the Law” and was featured nationally for his work on the “War of the Roses” case that aired on ABCNEWS Primetime.
Mr. Kornreich is known for his reputation for professionalism, civility, and pro bono service. He was the Recipient of the Tobias Simon Award, the highest pro bono award given in Florida, presented at The Florida Supreme Court. He has received the Judge Richard Yale Feder Professionalism Award; the Richard Milstein Excellence Award from the Dade County Bar Association; The Florida Bar “Sand Beneath my Feet” Professionalism Award; the Judge Theodore Klein Award, one of the highest honors bestowed by The Miami-Dade Florida Association for Women Lawyers; The Ray Pearson Guardian Ad Litem Award; the “W” Award by the YWCA; and Dade Legal Aid’s Extraordinary Service Award. He has been listed in Best Lawyers in America, Super Lawyers, South Florida Legal Elite, and is AV Rated by Martindale-Hubbell.
Mr. Kornreich was appointed by Governor Jeb Bush to serve on the Eleventh Judicial Circuit’s Judicial Nominating Commission (JNC), the body that recommends Judicial candidates for appointment by the Governor. He served on the JNC for four years and was elected as the Chair of the Commission.
He has been active in The Florida Bar Family Law Section serving on various committees, including participating on the committee that established the first set of the Family Law Rules of Procedure. He was appointed by The Florida Bar President in 2001 to Vice-Chair the Legal Commission on the Legal Needs of Children, the first committee formed to address whether children were being appropriately represented in Court.
Mr. Kornreich has been the lead organizer and moderator for the Annual View from the Bench Seminar benefitting Dade Legal Aid for 36 years. The View from the Bench is an annual seminar that recruits pro bono guardians ad litem and is attended by the entire 11th Judicial Circuit Family Law Bench.
Mr. Kornreich is the moderator for the annual panel that showcases new Judges in the Family Division. He has been responsible for recruiting thousands of Guardians ad Litem through his efforts with this program.
With a passion for helping children and keeping kids away from the trauma of court proceedings, he founded along with Former Chief Judge Bertila Soto the Court Care program, a program run through the YWCA that provides free childcare in five Miami-Dade Courthouses so that litigants without means to pay for child care have a place their children can stay while they are in Court. He is the Annual Chair for the Court Care Fundraiser, which raises the majority of the funds to continue operating the Centers each year.
Mr. Kornreich is also a Past President of The First Family Law American Inn of Court, a distinguished association of Family Law Attorneys that promotes civility in the practice of Family Law. Each year he leads efforts to provide turkey dinners for Thanksgiving through The First Family Law American Inn of Court “Turkey Drive” that he developed and has coordinated for over twenty-five years. The Turkey Drive raises funds to distribute Publix gift certificates to women and families residing in Domestic Violence shelters during the holidays.
Mr. Kornreich has been involved with numerous reported cases that have helped shape Family Law in the state of Florida and is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court. He is recognized as one of the leading Family Law attorneys in the country.
